MSoX Photokina 2010

Manfrotto School of Xcellence will be @ Photokina 2010, Hall 5.1

Could the Manfrotto School of Xcellence, in the year of its foundation, not be at Photokina 2010? Of course, we couldn’t.
We couldn’t miss such an important event in the Imaging World.

So we gathered five among our most important tutors and great photographers and made it happen: Bill Frakes, Joe McNally, Roberto Bigano, Drew Gardner and Uwe Statz.

These amazing masters of photography will present, teach, tutor and be available for your questions and photographic doubts. How? Here we go…

THE MANFROTTO SCHOOL OF XCELLENCE THEATER

The Photokina Central Theater will be fully sponsored by the Manfrotto School of Xcellence, from which it will take its name “Manfrotto School of Xcellence Theater“. You will find it at Hall 5.1.

Bill Frakes and Joe McNally will alternate daily at the theater with this schedule:

Tuesday 21, 1-2 pm – Joe McNally: LIGHT LANGUAGE. SPEAKING WITH THE LIGHT. Lighting consists of three major elements: Quality, Color and Direction. Learning to see what the camera sees is essential, and these three elements will be explored through pictures.

Wednesday 22. 1-2 pm – Bill Frakes: DIGITAL STORYTELLING Combining high resolution still images, HD video and audio to produce powerful storytelling across many platforms. Director/photographer Bill Frakes engages you in facing the new V-DSLR cameras advent. He explains how to get the best results out of these new toys through the narration of the “making of” of some of his hit stories. www.strawhatvisuals.com/multimedia/missy.html

Thursday 23, 1-2 pm – Joe McNally: SMALL FLASH, BIG FLASH. Learn when and why to use small, portable flashes vs. larger studio strobes. We’ll talk about the differences in overall look and feel of the light, as well as the appropriate response to any given situation.

Friday 24, 1-2 pm – Bill Frakes: EMOTIONAL MOTION. Sport photography requires many important technical skills, a great knowledge of the sport’s dynamics, a deep passion for the game and the ability to use these skills to produce images with only split seconds to think. Pulitzer Price winner and Sports Illustrated Staff Photographer Bill explains how he captures high impact action images and poignant portraits from the wide world of sport, where emotions and motion collide and combine to define the moment.

Saturday 25, 1-2 pm – Joe McNally: 30 YEARS ON….SURVIVING AS A SHOOTER FOR MAJOR MAGAZINES. Discussions, stories, strategies and solutions, based on 30 years of location-based shooting for National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and LIFE, amongst others.

Sunday 26, 4-5 pm – Bill Frakes: VISUAL POETRY. There is a revolution in music video production. DSLR cameras and small, efficient supports are used to produce high end imagery for bands of all sizes–quickly, economically and creatively. An inside and behind the scenes look at how the videos come together. http://www.strawhatvisuals.com/multimedia/backyard.html
