A recent prize in an eminent International contest and a sterile discussion on a social network made me think again about the “photographic medium”.

I think that no one has ever occurred to ask Conrad whether “Heart of Darkness” had been written with a stylus or with the typewriter.

I do not event think that anyone has ever wondered whether Matisse’s brushes were more technological than those of Picasso or if Miles Davis’ trumpet was made of such a particular alloy to make him the best trumpet player in the world.

In photography indeed, or I’d better say, unfortunately, there's still those who think that the camera creates the photographer.

Now I am not surprised about anything anymore, there are amateur photographers according to which a nice photograph is the photograph of something beautiful, a sunset on the Grand Canyon or the particular eyes of an African child.
