This new realease on Manfrotto School of Xcelllence introduces a young polish photographer. Karolina Lebek was born in Poland in 1989 and recently graduated in Photography and Video Art at University of Bedfordshire.

«The aim of my work is to capture not what I see, but what I feel. Gradually it became more subjective, following drastic changes in my personal life including the death of close family members and moving to a foreign country. I’m currently investigating my own history, searching for identity in familiar places or details. I’m interested in the idea of traces of events. What happens after the promise, which cannot be kept ?

Photographs included in this post were created during three different trips to the South of Poland between 2011 and 2012. It is a purely personal project,
evolving from ideas of
memory, distance and emotional loss.
Driven by nostalgia I kept revisiting places once known and remembered as significant; searching for the surreal in my everyday surroundings, welcoming chance into the work.

After moving away from my native country in 2008 my life obtained a new meaning, but I also started noticing what I didn’t see before. My emotional relationship with Poland gradually became stronger. Subjected to loss, both in a metaphorical and painfully real sense, I felt an urge to investigate my personal identity. Placed in a position of an immigrant, I began seeking reassurance of my own existence.
