The Manfrotto School of Xcellence team was at the race following and recording Alessandro, who ran with great energy despite the rain and snow. The team was, of course, well equipped with bags and tripods.

Here's a list of the equipment carried by the School for the event:

Head Gitzo GH2750QR

Monopod Manfrotto 695CX

- Argentière – 93.38 km

The course was 103.42 km long and this year, exceptionally, stayed entirely within the French border. Here's a map of the route:

The race.

Alessandro had already planned his strategy: walk uphill, run, whizz downhill like a hare… which is the way he usually does it … and if possible, run the race in a good time and enjoy the mountans. His goal: to complete the original 169km route in under 30 hours.

The starting line.

There were many competitors despite the rain and snow, though some of the athletes did give up because of the wintry conditions. Alessandro, on the other hand, was just sad that the full 168 km course he had he wanted to run had been reduced to 100km because of the terrible weather conditions.

A wonderful race.

The encouragement of the crowd helped Alessandro along every step of the way: “bravo“, “go, go, go!”.. that, and the mountains, the extraordinary landscapes that even the rain couldn't dampen, the hundreds of lights along the path, so many crazy fireflies dancing in the dark of the night, the enchanted forests, rushing streams of cold water, the majestic peaks.

And then on Saturday at 12.15 Alessandro crossed the finishing line, still smiling and greeting the crowd after 16 hours and 57 minutes of running.

“The training is everything, but the secret to do a race of this distance is to know your own body and what you need to keep going, and to love running, and love mountains”, said Alessandro. “Trail running is very difficult; there’s always something new. You run conservatively, nutrition and hydration are extremely important. I keep my mind on the finish line the whole time, and I tell myself to keep going. Also, having my family support me and meet me along the course made a big difference. ”

We're definitely looking forward to the next Ultra Trail!

Congratulations on your run, Alessandro!
