Manfrotto local hero Victoria Hillman won two awards in the recent Zoological Society of London Animal Photography Prize awards.
At the start of the year, The Zoological Society of London launched the ZSL Animal Photography Prize 2012, a competition set up to find the most amazing animal photography in the world.
“The ZSL Animal Photography Prize aimed for more than just pretty pictures – we were looking for images that would form part of an exhibition and ongoing collection of work which would challenge the viewers’ perception of and relationship with the natural world and its inhabitants.
ZSL’s scientific and field conservation work with animals around the world, along with the inhabitants at ZSL London Zoo and its larger country cousin at Whipsnade, have always inspired legions of photographers.
Archive photographs in the zoo’s collection date as far back as 1860, showing that all creatures’ great and small have been rousing subjects for photographers since the advent of photography.
The competition attracted entrants from around the world and the calibre of the work entered has been truly remarkable. The winning and highly commended images in each category of the junior and adult divisions will now form the basis of an outdoor exhibiti
on to be displayed in the heart of ZSL London Zoo.”
The ZSL Animal Photography Prize Exhibition took place on 21st September 2012 and the images (right) show Victoria next to both of her winning shots, currently on exhibition at London Zoo until the end of this year.
She was in fact the only female adult category winner and had the only black and white image in the exhibition, with the 'Mating Bubbles' image grabbing Highly Commended in the 'Birds and Bees' category and 'The Weevil and the Fern' coming out top in the 'Size Matters' category.
“Both images were taken in Somerset – the 'Weevil and the Fern' was taken at Westhay Moor Nature Reserve and the 'Mating Bubbles' in Shepton Mallet,” said an elated Victoria.
