Pro Light Access Camera Holster: ACCESS H-16 PL

When do we travel we choose our own style of traveling. Some try to be in the place the visit as confortable as they are at home, others the other way around. No matter what, traveling is something quite personal and deciding what gear to carry with you it is both a personal and professional matter. For me every travel is different and it depends where I am going and what for. Logistic is high sensitive matter for me. Getting ready and planning an expedition, professional travels or just holiday it is always time consuming for me.

I just came a few weeks ago to cover the humanitarian crisis in the Turkish border near the Syrian city of Kobane. Perhaps it is not much in the media but that does not mean that more than three millions refugees do not exist so we do need photojournalist over there to call attention for that, it is not a random local crisis. The Islamic Estate is committing crimes and being responsible for hundreds of thousands of children without proper food and no housing for a cold winter in southeast Turkey.

Getting ready for photojournalistic coverage of such events in a war zone takes weeks of preparation. This time I made my arrangement with another to journalist putting together a team so we could reduce the risk of kidnapping and share expenses. Traveling in a car is necessary for being able to reach places could not do other way so packing three journalist plus a driver plus a fixer it is not easy neither fast. So we had to be accurate about getting into and out side of it. I knew that in advance for previous experiences in war zones so I did not want to mess around with gear it was not necessary. It was cold so jackets and some other stuff made already the car well packed; it was worthy to think about it. If you need to rush into the car or getting out for whatever reason I promise you there is not a second to loose o making some room to accommodate bags. For those reasons and thinking in the cameras I needed to carry, I took with me the Manfrotto holster H-16 and I adapt that to my style with no problems (Pro Light Access Camera Holster: ACCESS H-16 PL). This is the magic of this product plus you experience adapting that to you needs.

This holster it is made for one body with standard lens plus two extra lenses. That’s give you a pretty good volume so I put in there my Nikon D600 plus my 24-70mm, witch is big, plus another body Nikon D90 and a 50 mm lens. As a photojournalist I need to get close. When you are out you never know if the events will take you our for days so from my expedition in the desert I bring to my photojournalist world portable solar panels for my cameras and adapter to charge that in the car. I don’t want to get running of batteries waiting for days in a trench. I was happy to carry all that in just a holster.

The size was important not too big so I could move it around my hips or attached to my belt so I could reach easily or put it fast in front of me just seconds of getting into the car. Of course people could tell I was a photojournalist this time but it is always good you keep your gear as discrete as possible, they are going to notice this holster inside your jacket but it is not going to be so obvious like a bag pack.

My advise is buy the right stuff but in terms of photography thinking always for what your are going to use that and adapted to your needs. If you can do that with a product probably is worthy.
