I started taking photographs at art school in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1968.
Bought my first Gitzo in 1971 when I started working in Cape Town after graduating from the Port Elizabeth School of Art.
Back then Gitzo was the only serious tripod choice for professionals on the planet and that is still the case today.
I went on to become a successful advertising photographer shooting all over the world for major brands with studios in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Cape Cod, London and New York.
I now live in Naples,Florida on the Gulf of Mexico shooting various assignments of my choice.
Traveling with my trusted Gitzo Traveler Kit GK2545T-82QD (tripod GT2545T + ball head GH1382QD) and various cameras + lenses is something I really enjoy. The new Traveler ball head with Arca Swiss plate handles both my Fuji X Pro1 and Canon 5DS with the greatest of ease regardless of camera/lens weight.
The adjustments on the new ball head is a vast improvement and a joy to use. The compactness when folded + weight is perfect for traveling with all the recent airline weight restrictions world wide.
Once extended the height reached is eye level which is perfect. The stability with the new “Carbon Exact” legs feels very stable and secure . Opening and closing the legs with one action is also very helpful when one is in a hurry. The low level adaptor is another clever addition.
I have just completed a body of work called “Chasing Clouds” around where I live as the skies in the summer here are epic and different everyday. I shot around a radius of 50 miles depending which direction the clouds were coming from so it was a matter of being on standby, checking the sky, loading up tripod + camera then driving to the direction of the best clouds. The series were shot with the Canon 5DS with BG-E11 Battery Grip + 24mm TS-E 24mm f/3.5L Tilt-Shift lens which was very stable on the Traveler.
The custom Gitzo bag for the Traveler is a perfect match and very comfortable to carry over one’s shoulder.
